CCTV - IP Camera Systems

All of the major CCTV manufacturers are now moving on to the latest developments in IP technology. Rather than have dedicated co-axial wiring to carry video signals from the camera to a recording or monitoring unit, cameras are now available which connect to your existing in-house network wiring.

If you have network switches with built-in power over the ethernet (POE) capability, some cameras do not need any other source of power.

The functionality of analogue cameras is now available with IP cameras and there is the added bonus that IP cameras can be made more accessible for remote viewing via a web browser.

Some IP cameras are configured in a similar fashion to conventional CCTV cameras with image data being recorded on a network video recorder (NVR). Others can have internal memory cards fitted to enable a "stand-alone" operation mode or can be set up to send recorded images to a network PC or storage device.

IP cameras are seen as a more efficient way to install a CCTV system. If you have conventional analogue cameras that you would like to put on to your network, IP video server devices are also available to convert an analogue camera video output to a data stream.
